I have a Canon Auto Zoom 518, and I have many questions...
1st...How does my light meter work?
What batteries do I need for it and where do the batteries go?
2nd...On the pistol/handle, there is a switch. I switch it one way, there is a picture of a "sun", the other way there is a "light bulb" what is this for?
3rd...On the side of the grip, there is a dial that spins from "AUTO" to "MANUAL", what is that for?
4th...What is the switch that goes from "R", "." "L" ? and what does it do?
Last...When I switch it from "18fps" to slow motion, the shutter doesn't move, do I need need new batteries? is the slow motion broke? or am I not supposed to hear or see the shutter move?
Pretty much, I need to know how to use this thing, I don't have a manual and I don't want to pay someone $20 for one, so if you can answer any of these questions, please do so. Feel free to email me @ [email protected]
thanks

OK here goes...
1. Light meter - put batteries in - point at subject, half press trigger - if enough light, needle in viewfinder comes into view showing apperture it will expose film at in manual or automatic mode.
2. Sun/bulb - With Kodachrome, switch to sun for sunlight filming, bulb for indoor (lightbulb lit filming - compensates for colour difference between these light sources, which is more severe than our eyes register.
3. Auto - see above (1.) Manual, pull it out and set it to whatever apperture you need. Forget manual for your first few rolls of film.
4. R = run, RL or L = run lock, meaning you press the trigger once and it stays on until you press it again.
Slowmo - what do you mean by shutter? The whole camera should sound like a hyperactive sewing machine in slowmo.
Good luck

DPM, my reply to Mixmastermike81 fell short as the site I listed did not have the instruction manual for his exact camera model, however, it does have your model, the Canon Autozoom 518. You can download a PDF copy for free
